Why Pumpkin Deserves a Spot in Your Dog’s Bowl!

Oct 31, 2025 Sara Lo

Every October, pumpkins take over — pies, lattes, decorations, and yes, even our dogs’ diets. But unlike candy or caramel apples, this seasonal favourite actually *earns* its place in your pup’s bowl.

At DoggyBag, we’ve always believed food should be simple, real, and functional. So when we say “pumpkin,” we don’t mean sugary fillings or flavoured syrups — we mean real, steamed, mashed pumpkin: the kind that’s full of fibre, beta-carotene, and gentle goodness for dogs of all shapes and sizes.

Pumpkin is one of nature’s easiest, most effective tummy regulators. It’s high in soluble fibre, which helps soothe sensitive stomachs, firm up loose stools, and ease constipation. For dogs prone to upset tummies, it’s a mild, natural way to bring balance back — no mystery powders or lab-made fixes needed.

That deep orange colour isn’t just festive — it’s a sign of antioxidants. Pumpkin is packed with beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A. That means better skin, shinier coats, and stronger immune systems — exactly what your dog needs before the rainy season rolls in.

Pumpkin is both satisfying and light, making it perfect for dogs watching their weight. It adds volume and flavour to meals without loading up on fat or starch — a small trick that helps your dog feel full while still eating clean.

We use real pumpkin in our Chicken & Pumpkin meal — steamed, mashed, and folded into a mix of lean chicken, rice, and greens. It’s gentle on tummies, bright in colour, and full of the kind of goodness you can actually see.

So while the rest of the world goes pumpkin-crazy this Halloween, your dog can join in the fun — the healthy way.

Happy Halloween!

Paws Out!
