Rather than discard them, they’re processed into “meal,” labeled vaguely, and sold as pet food.
As pet food isn’t as tightly regulated as human food, manufacturers use vague terms and clever packaging spousing fake health claims, because most people don’t read the label, or don’t know how to. It’s all reliant on our ignorance as pet owners, to buy without questioning, to keep the cycle going.
